Is it time to look for a new job?
In the fast-paced and ever-evolving world of architecture and interior design, ensuring you are in the right job at the right time is crucial for personal satisfaction and overall well-being.
Recognising when to seek new opportunities is essential for maintaining a fulfilling and successful career in these dynamic sectors.
Here are the key signs that it might be the right time to start your job search:
Limited Growth Opportunities - If your current position offers little room for development, it might be time to look for a new role where you can continue to soar.
Declining Job Satisfaction - If your current role no longer excites you or aligns with your career aspirations, it could be time to explore new positions that reignite your interest and enthusiasm for architecture or interior design.
A Toxic Work Environment - Working in a toxic culture, dealing with poor management, or facing ongoing conflicts can seriously impact your well-being.
Misalignment with Company Values - If you find that your personal values or ethical standards no longer align with those of your employer, it might be time to seek a role in an organisation that shares your vision and principles.
Stagnant Compensation - In fields as demanding as architecture and interior design, your compensation should reflect your skills and contributions.
Burnout - If you’re feeling drained, it might be time to seek a new role that offers a better work-life balance, helping you to regain your energy and enthusiasm.
Craving New Challenges - If you’ve mastered your current role and find yourself yearning for new challenges, it indicates that it’s time to move on.
Company Instability - If your company is experiencing financial instability or frequent layoffs, it may be wise to explore more secure opportunities.
Work-Life Imbalance - If your job is consistently infringing on your personal time and you’re struggling to maintain a healthy work-life balance, it might be time to find a role that allows for better boundaries and more time for what matters most to you.
Feeling Unvalued or Unappreciated - When your contributions go unnoticed, it can lead to feeling unmotivated, unhappy, and even burnt out.
Trusting Your Intuition - Sometimes, a persistent feeling that it’s time for a change is all the signal you need. If you’ve been feeling dissatisfied or restless for a while, it’s worth exploring what else is out there.

Meet Eloise Brett, Recruitment Consultant - Interior Design
Eloise Brett is a Recruitment Consultant for FRAME, specialising in the interior design sector. With a particular focus on hospitality interior design, Eloise works closely with industry professionals to connect top talent with leading design studios. Her interview provides valuable insights into current market trends and in-demand roles, serving as an invaluable resource for clients and candidates.
Which online or offline platforms or sources do you find most inspiring for interior designers?
“LinkedIn is one of the main platforms. It’s a great place for people to share what they’re working on and showcase their projects, as well as other aspects of interior design. Events and exhibitions are also inspiring. I went to the Wow House a couple of months ago at the Design Centre in Chelsea Harbour. It was great to see different designers, each of whom designed a room for the house. Next week, I’m going to Decorex with Danielle Davies (Team Leader of FRAME). I think these events are excellent for meeting others and exchanging ideas.”
How competitive is the market for senior vs. entry-level roles?
“There’s more demand for senior professionals at the moment. Many recent graduates are looking for roles, but most clients are seeking experienced candidates. There’s a limited number of senior people available, so the competition for them is high, and everyone wants to secure the best talent.”
What are the top three jobs that are most in-demand in interior design at the moment?
“Number one is Senior FF&E Designers. There aren’t many of them available, and many are retained by their current employers. Mid-weight Interior Designers, especially in the hospitality sector, are also in high demand. Finally, Senior Interior Designers, in general, are sought after.”
Do you think this demand will change over the next six months?
“The demand for senior professionals will likely remain high for a while. It might shift slightly towards mid-weight and junior-level roles, but I think senior roles will continue to be a priority for some time. I expect studios to adapt their packages to better meet candidates' expectations. Hybrid working, for example, has become a bigger focus, as work-life balance is often more important to designers than salary alone. To retain top talent, studios will need to offer more than just a competitive salary.”
Please tell me something fun or interesting about yourself that others may not know.
“I’m a big football fan. I’ve supported Saints and have attended almost every single Saints game since I was eight years old.”
